What are the red flags of a potential infestation?
Wasps can be discreet, particularly during the early stages of an infestation. If you start to notice a couple of wasps buzzing inside your home or your property at large, then it could be a sign of an undiscovered nest on your residence. Their nests tend to resemble honeycombs or paper-like structures and you should never try to disrupt the nest on your own. You should also note that wasps come in different colours, so keep a sharp eye out for six-legged, wingless creatures with elongated waists in pale red, black or yellow!
How do you know if the warm has grown?
When wasps first make their way to your property, they tend to be few. Therefore, the nest will be quite small, not even the size of a tennis ball entirely. Nonetheless, when the wasps are left alone to breed, the queen will begin to lay eggs at an alarming rate. Resultantly, more and more wasps inhabit the nest, so they end up building a bigger one. When the wasps are left alone, they will become aggressive if a human tries to disrupt their nest. This could mean an attack by the entire colony rather than just one wasp sting!
What steps should be taken?
If you suspect that you have a wasp infestation but are not completely sure, do not try to poke at the nest on your own! Nothing should convince you to address this problem on your own since it is not safe for you and everyone in close proximity. Instead, it is imperative to call a wasp exterminator immediately and inform all your neighbours of the potential threat so that they are not at risk of stings.
